About the role:

  • The Conflict Analyst is responsible for assisting in the Legal Department’s risk management activities by performing business research and database content analyses designed to reduce risk.
  • This function performs conflict checks, assists in the resolution of actual or potential conflicts, and functions in a quality control role for the case intake process by confirming data and identifying key content elements of the new case or lead.
  • Responsibilities also include assistance with various projects undertaken by department leadership.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct due diligence and research on new cases and leads.
  • Research company information on the web, such as annual reports, news articles, corporate affiliates, product names and product information.
  • Research case information on the web using Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and federal and state court websites.
  • Accurately enter case information into Firm’s conflict database, Intapp Open.
  • Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret database research results to identify and highlight potential conflict issues related to both parties and subject of the engagement.
  • Organize relevant information and prepare succinct written case summaries that effectively communicate potential issues.
  • Assist in the resolution of conflicts, which requires a high degree of contact with Managing Principals, the Firm’s
  • General Counsel and other senior staff.
  • Prepare necessary reports to submit to the Conflict Committee for review and approval of new cases and leads.
  • Ensure case, client, and related party information is comprehensive and accurate, and identify key content elements of the new case or lead that support other administrative teams.
  • Work with others in the Legal Department on engagement letter terms, and review and track engagement restrictions or agreed-upon terms to ensure compliance.
  • Identify cases that require an information screen, and coordinate with the Risk System Administrator when information screens are necessary.
  • Maintain internal case databases, run searches on internal and external document databases and systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate or JD preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of substantive relevant experience required.
  • An ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of substantive relevant experience.
  • Equivalent work experience in a professional service firm preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with colleagues, both verbally and through written communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong PC capabilities, including Microsoft Office (Word, Intermediate Excel) required. Intapp Open experience a plus.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule dictated by business needs.
  • Research skills required – Lexis, Bloomberg Law, Dun & Bradstreet Family Tree Finder, Pacer, CourtLink, etc.
  • An inclusive and growth-oriented mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work across differences.
  • To the extent permitted by applicable law, eligible candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship or restriction, now and in the future.

The Frost flipped the script in the third period and overtime Wednesday in Toronto.

While Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the contest, the ice was tilted in Toronto’s direction for the first two periods. The Sceptres held a heavy advantage in shots on goal.

But it was all Minnesota late — until it wasn’t.

Tied 2-2 entering the third period, the Frost fired 15 shots on goal to Toronto’s four in the frame to no avail. But Minnesota again controlled play in overtime, only to have a giveaway result in a breakaway.

Renata Fast beat Maddie Rooney with just 3.7 seconds left on the clock to give the Sceptres the 3-2 overtime victory.

“I had no idea (how much time was left),” Fast said in the on-ice, television interview. “When I turned and looked at the clock, I was shocked at the time. … I had no idea.”

Minnesota bested Toronto in a shootout in St. Paul just two weeks ago.

Sophie Jaques scored just 83 seconds into the affair to put the Frost up 1-0, and then assisted on Minnesota’s second tally, a goal from Brooke McQuigge to make it 2-0 in a rematch of last year’s title round.

But Toronto stormed back with a pair of goals in a two-minute span later in the second period — the first from Hannah Miller and the second from Daryl Watts to make it 2-2.

But that’s where the score stood until late in the extra session, and Sceptres goalie Raygan Kirk continued to turn away one Frost opportunity after another en route to her 27-save performance.

Rooney had 19 saves in the loss. The Frost went 0 for 2 on the power play.

While the Frost picked up a point Tuesday, they’ve now lost three of their past five contests, with just one regulation win in that span.

Even amid the struggles, Minnesota remains comfortably in second place in the PWHL standings. The Frost play in Ottawa on Thursday.

The following is a comparison of the AWS, Azure, and GCP pricing models according to the type of machine they offer:

Small Instance: In AWS, the small instance includes 8GB RAM and two virtual CPUs. It will cost us about 69 US dollars per month. While for the same instance of 8GB RAM and two virtual CPUs in Azure will cost us about 70 US dollars per month. Compared to AWS, GCP will provide us with a very basic instance that contains two virtual CPUs and 8GB of RAM at a rate of 25 percent cheaper. As a result, it will cost us approximately 52 US dollars per month.

Largest Instance: The biggest instance provided by AWS contains 3.84TB of RAM and 128 virtual CPUs, and it will cost us approximately 3.97 US dollars per hour. While for the same instance of 3.84TB of RAM and 128 virtual CPUs, it will cost us approximately 6.79 US dollars per hour. GCP is leading the way with the largest instance comprising 3.75TB of RAM and 160 virtual CPUs. The cost will be approximately 5.32 US dollars per hour.

Recently AWS has started providing pay-per-minute billing. Azure is already providing the same service, whereas Google cloud is providing pay-per-second billing that saves the users money. It also helps the users by providing a number of discounts which saves the money of Users upto 50 percent.

The Treasury Department granted Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency access to its payment systems this week, a decision that drew large amounts of criticism from federal employees, lawmakers and citizens.

An agreement following a lawsuit brought by a group of federal employee unions has temporarily stopped the sharing of sensitive data with DOGE until a judge can hear legal arguments, according to Reuters.

Two members of DOGE have already received “read-only” access to the Treasury’s spending on tax refunds, federal grants and programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and more. Plaintiffs argue Musk and DOGE illegally searched them. The nongovernment advisory group, created via an executive order by President Donald Trump, also gained access to the Social Security numbers of most taxpayers in the process. 

This has triggered much chatter on social media platforms like X and TikTok about the importance of freezing your credit, with countless American’s Social Security numbers potentially at risk amid government watchdog and politician claims that DOGE is bypassing established cybersecurity practices and regulations.

As a cybersecurity editor, I’m in favor of Americans freezing their credit, no matter the reason. 

But there’s also the elephant in the room that has to be acknowledged: your Social Security number may already be compromised.  

Why your SSN may be already compromised 

There hasn’t been a data breach related to DOGE’s activity — not yet anyway. But there are countless others that have exposed the personal identifiable data of everyday people. Last year, there were at least 196 data compromises and more than 860 million victim notices sent by companies, according to new research by the Identity Theft Resource Center. The hacks of background search company National Public Data and UnitedHealth Group subsidiary Change Healthcare exposed the personal information of hundreds of millions of people alone. 

If a cybercriminal gets their hands on your Social Security number, they can cause a lot of damage. For example, they can take out lines of credit in your name or file taxes on your behalf to steal your tax return.

Cybercriminals are also known to craft targeted phishing scams via telephone, text or email to strip you of your hard earned money or sensitive information. Some bad actors have even adopted the use of AI to help expedite efforts and create new swindles like deep fakes

How can I protect my identity if my SSN is exposed?

There are many steps you can take to protect your identity if you fear your Social Security number has been exposed in a data breach or if you want to be proactive.

Freeze your credit reports

Freezing your credit reports with each of the three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian and Equifax) prevents anyone from opening lines of credit in your name. This includes you. So if you want to take out a mortgage, car loan or apply for a new credit card while your credit is frozen, you must “thaw” or unfreeze your credit reports first. 

Freezing your credit is completely free. I actually did it myself last year, and found the process to be quite easy. You can also freeze your children’s credit reports, though it will require some extra steps.

Sign up for identity theft protection

Identity theft protection services help monitor your personal data on the dark web. They also monitor your credit reports and bank accounts if you are too lazy to do it yourself, which I really like. 

Most plans come with identity theft protection insurance and white glove restoration services. The latter means a dedicated restoration specialist will handle most of the grunt work in restoring your identity, including filing disputes with credit bureaus and contacting different financial institutions. 

Individual ID theft plans cost anywhere from $7 to $15, but there are plenty of family options and even packages catered to couples available as well. If you’re just interested in keeping an eye on your credit report, you could also consider a credit monitoring service.

Lock your Social Security number

You can lock your Social Security number with the Social Security Administration over the phone or by creating an E-verify account. 

Locking your SSN prevents bad actors from collecting government benefits and applying for work in your name. Similar to freezing your credit, you must remove the lock on your SSN in order to perform these actions, however. 

Don’t carry around your Social Security card

Your Social Security card should be kept in a secure place, ideally a safe that only you know the combination to. Never carry it around with you unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Don’t overshare your SSN either

Be cautious about who you disclose your SSN to. Your SSN is a requirement when you apply for a job or file a tax return. But it’s okay to ask anyone asking for your SSN why they need it. Some common tasks like getting your driver’s license or applying for subsidized housing won’t require you to share your SSN.
